Sustainable Brand Benchmark - Hampshire Group

By CommonShare

Hampshire Group has shifted its focus from women's sweaters to men's sweaters and woven and knit tops. After years of declining sales and mounting losses in the women's sweater business, the company sold its women's lines in 2011 to focus exclusively on men's sweaters and woven and knit tops. The firm is licensed to manufacture men's knitwear under the Geoffrey Beene, Dockers, and Joseph Abboud labels. Hampshire Group's own brands include Spring+Mercer and scott james. The company's apparel is sold by major department store chains and specialty retailers throughout the US. JC Penney, Kohl's, and Macy's are Hampshire Group's largest customers, accounting for more than 50% of total annual sales. In November 2016, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
