
7 FALLS MUSHROOM FARM
Organically grown Shiitake mushrooms are highly prized in New England and the demand for them is currently greater than the supply. 7 Falls Mushroom Farm is a 14 acre farm of hardwoods and wetlands that makes it ideally suited to grow this renewable crop. In addition to providing this highly prized mushroom in local restaurants and farmers markets, jobs are provided for local teens who are required to innoculate the logs with the mushroom mycellium. Built with a partially funded project through the CT Department of Agriculture, 7 Falls Mushroom Farm was featured on NPR Connecticut, Cox Communications “New England Cuisine” and will be featured this fall of 2015 on NPRs “Food Schmooze” with Faith Middleton and Chris Prosperi. The notoriety of the farm continues to develop an appreciation and a market for locally grown organic produce.
