BIFMA

BIFMA (Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturers Association) is a non-profit trade association based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA. It represents the interests of commercial furniture manufacturers and suppliers in North America. BIFMA was founded in 1973 and has since become a leading authority on the development of safety, performance, and sustainability standards for commercial furniture products.

BIFMA's mission is to advocate for the growth and sustainability of the commercial furniture industry, promote excellence in design and manufacturing, and provide education and research to members and the public. The association is dedicated to developing voluntary standards for furniture products, which include office chairs, desks, tables, storage units, and other types of commercial furniture. These standards cover various aspects of product performance, safety, and sustainability, and are used by manufacturers, buyers, and specifiers to ensure the quality and durability of their products.

BIFMA also conducts research and provides educational resources to help manufacturers and suppliers stay up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies in the commercial furniture industry. The association organizes various events, such as conferences, seminars, and workshops, to bring together members and industry experts to exchange knowledge and best practices.

BIFMA has over 250 members, including furniture manufacturers, suppliers, and service providers, and is governed by a board of directors composed of industry leaders. The association is committed to advancing sustainability in the commercial furniture industry and has developed a series of sustainability standards for furniture products, including the level® certification program, which assesses the environmental and social impact of commercial furniture products throughout their lifecycle.
