Open Measures

Open Measures helps organizations trace networks of influence across multiple digital platforms in order to detect, monitor, and respond to harmful online activity such as disinformation, extremism, and coordinated manipulation campaigns. Their platform offers tools for searching, analyzing, and visualizing data across social networks, forums, and fringe spaces, aggregating text, multimedia, and network graphs so researchers can see patterns of influence and narratives evolve. Although some parts of their system are open source, they operate a tiered product model: a free “Public” version offering basic access and paid Pro / Enterprise tiers with more features, more recent data, expanded sources, and customization. Their rebranding from “SMAT” to “Open Measures” in December 2023 emphasized their commitment to openness and transparency while maintaining commercial viability. They also position themselves as a community and research partner: empowering the OSINT community, researchers, journalists, NGOs, and civil society actors with tools that would otherwise be available only to well-funded institutions. By lowering the barrier to entry and enabling transparency in methodology, they aim to democratize the study of influence networks and help preempt real-world harms that flow from online manipulation and extremism.
