Stand.earth
Stand.earth is a dynamic and expanding organization comprising strategists, researchers, communicators, and policy experts, bolstered by a robust global network of donors, activists, and community members from diverse backgrounds. United by a shared commitment to transformational change, the team at Stand.earth began their journey on the frontlines, defending the old-growth forests of British Columbia from clear-cutting.
Their inception in the early 1990s was marked by vigorous protests against logging in Clayoquot Sound, the largest intact old-growth watershed on Vancouver Island. Collaborating with First Nations, local advocates, and other leaders, they successfully brought international attention to the cause. Despite these efforts, logging persisted, prompting Stand.earth to adopt a different strategy. By investigating and exposing the companies purchasing wood and paper from these ancient forests, they revealed the environmental destruction linked to these products, ultimately forging agreements to protect these vital ecosystems.
Stand.earth's innovative approach, which harmonizes the interests of First Nations, governments, industry, and environmentalists, has been exemplified by the Great Bear Rainforest Agreements. These agreements are celebrated as some of the world's most comprehensive conservation efforts. Over the past two decades, Stand.earth has successfully scaled this methodology across various geographies and sectors, including energy, shipping, and apparel manufacturing, garnering the support of over a million people worldwide.
The organization remains committed to its core values of mindfulness, equity, and principle, continuously training its staff and enhancing its awareness to drive impactful change. Through its relentless advocacy and strategic initiatives, Stand.earth continues to challenge and reform industries, fostering a more sustainable and equitable world.
