Corporate headquarter
The University of Vermont Proctor Maple Research Center, established in 1946, stands as the oldest maple research facility globally and a pioneering institution in the field of maple tree science. Situated on the slopes of Mt. Mansfield in Underhill, Vermont, the center is dedicated to conducting cutting-edge research, demonstrations, and education to benefit the maple industry. With a focus on maple syrup production, the center taps approximately 6,500 trees annually to produce over 3,000 gallons of maple syrup, utilizing innovative techniques such as a Lapierre HyperBrix Reverse Osmosis machine and evaporator, which doubled operational productivity in 2018.
The Proctor Maple Research Center has garnered international recognition for its contributions to maple science, particularly in sap flow mechanisms, weather variables affecting sap yield, and syrup chemistry. By enhancing knowledge of sugar maple health, metabolism, and wood anatomy, the center has solidified its position as a leader in the industry. Notable achievements include the establishment of the MapleResearch.org platform for publications search and the development of the Sap pricing calculator, demonstrating a commitment to advancing maple research and technology.
Driven by a mission to inform and enhance maple production globally, the center serves as a field research station for the University of Vermont's Department of Plant Biology. With a strong emphasis on practical and scholarly knowledge, the center caters to a diverse audience, including producers, scientists, and students. As the Proctor Maple Research Center continues to shape the future of the maple industry, its strategic direction focuses on further research, education, and innovation to address emerging challenges and opportunities in maple syrup production.
