Climate Neutral Certified
Climate Neutral Certified is a certification program that validates and recognizes companies for their commitment to measuring, reducing, and offsetting their carbon emissions to achieve carbon neutrality. The certification is granted by Climate Neutral, an independent nonprofit organization that aims to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy and combat climate change.
To become Climate Neutral Certified, companies must undergo a rigorous process that includes the following steps:
Measurement: Companies measure their greenhouse gas emissions across their entire value chain, including direct emissions (Scope 1) from their operations and indirect emissions (Scope 2 and Scope 3) from their supply chain, transportation, and other activities. They use recognized standards and methodologies to ensure accurate and consistent measurement.
Reduction: Companies develop and implement strategies to reduce their carbon footprint by implementing energy efficiency measures, adopting renewable energy sources, optimizing transportation, and making other operational changes to minimize emissions. The goal is to identify and implement actions that can effectively reduce emissions and minimize the company's impact on the environment.
Offsetting: After reducing emissions as much as possible, companies then invest in high-quality carbon offset projects to compensate for their remaining emissions. These projects can include activities such as renewable energy generation, forest conservation, or methane capture projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions elsewhere.
Verification: An independent third-party verifies the company's carbon neutrality claims and assesses the accuracy of the measurement, reduction, and offsetting efforts. This ensures transparency and credibility in the certification process.
By achieving Climate Neutral Certified status, companies demonstrate their commitment to taking action on climate change and being accountable for their carbon emissions. The certification provides assurance to consumers and stakeholders that the company has taken concrete steps to reduce its environmental impact and contribute to a more sustainable future.
Climate Neutral Certified companies are also allowed to display the Climate Neutral Certified label on their products and marketing materials, helping consumers easily identify and support businesses that prioritize environmental responsibility.
