ECONYL®

About ECONYL®

The ECONYL® label is associated with a regenerated nylon fiber produced by the Italian company Aquafil. ECONYL® is a brand name for a specific type of nylon made from recycled materials, particularly post-consumer waste like fishing nets, fabric scraps, and industrial plastic. The innovative process employed by Aquafil allows for the transformation of this waste into a high-quality nylon yarn suitable for various applications, including apparel, swimwear, carpets, and accessories.

The ECONYL® production process involves several steps. First, the waste materials, such as discarded fishing nets and other nylon-based products, are collected. These materials are then cleaned and prepared for regeneration. In the regeneration process, the nylon waste is depolymerized, breaking it down into its original building blocks called monomers. These monomers are then used to create new nylon yarn through a process known as polymerization. The resulting ECONYL® yarn is of comparable quality to virgin nylon and can be used as a sustainable alternative in the textile industry.

The ECONYL® label represents a commitment to sustainability and circular economy principles. By utilizing post-consumer waste as a raw material, the production of ECONYL® helps to reduce the environmental impact associated with traditional nylon production, including the extraction of fossil fuels and the generation of greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, the use of ECONYL® contributes to waste reduction by repurposing materials that would otherwise end up in landfills or pollute the oceans.

The ECONYL® label assures consumers that the product they are purchasing is made with sustainable and recycled materials. It indicates that the product aligns with principles of circular economy, resource efficiency, and reduced environmental impact. The ECONYL® label has gained recognition and acceptance in various industries, where it serves as a symbol of commitment to sustainability and responsible production practices.

It's important to note that the ECONYL® label specifically applies to products made with the ECONYL® nylon yarn. Other aspects of a product's sustainability, such as the manufacturing process or social responsibility, may be covered by additional certifications or standards.
