ISO 14040:2006 is an international standard that provides guidelines for life cycle assessment (LCA) including principles and framework. It covers goal and scope definition, life cycle inventory analysis, life cycle impact assessment, life cycle interpretation, reporting and critical review, limitations, the relationship between the LCA phases, and conditions for use of value choices and optional elements. The standard allows for flexibility in methodology and was last reviewed in 2022 to ensure its current relevance.
