BJORG ET COMPAGNIE
BJORG ET COMPAGNIE SAS, a pioneer in the organic and sustainable food sector, has a rich history marked by significant milestones. Founded in 1970 by Régis Pelen under the name Distriborg in Saint Genis-Laval, the company introduced its Bjorg brand, the first organic brand in supermarkets, in 1988. Over the years, it has expanded its portfolio and commitment to sustainability. In 1999, Gayelord Hauser joined the company, strengthening its expertise in dietetics.
The 2000s saw continued innovation with the creation of Tanoshi, a Japanese cuisine brand, and efforts to optimize fatty acids and eliminate palm oil. By 2008, Bjorg et Compagnie further solidified its presence in the market. The company became Bioentreprise Durable certified in 2014 and has been active in promoting a veggie diet within the company.
A landmark moment came in 2017 when Bjorg et Compagnie became the first French agro-food company to receive B Corp certification. The following year, it launched its foundation, Bjorg, Bonneterre et Citoyens, under the aegis of the Fondation de France. In 2018, the company moved to its new headquarters, La Ruche, which was the first Well-certified building in France.
The company’s commitment to sustainability continued with the acquisition of organic tea and coffee brands Naturela in 2016 and the expansion of production capacities. In recent years, Bjorg et Compagnie has actively promoted local and plant-based nutrition and has been involved in various social and environmental initiatives.
